About the Event
There will be a short introduction at 5 p.m. from Douglas County Aquatic and Invasive Species (AIS) Coordinator, Zach Stewart. Zach will talk a bit about invasive Yellow Flag Iris, its biology, and how it harms the ecosystems of the St. Louis River, he will also provide a short identification training and show folks how to differentiate from other similar species that might be encountered while digging.
We will be removing invasive Yellow Flag Iris flowers by hand as well as collecting garbage (not to be confused with the beautiful and native Blue Iris).
We will be working in and near the water, so please wear/bring long clothing, gloves, and high-boots/waders if you have them! Bring your own drinking water. We will provide shovels, clippers, gloves and garbage bags.
Please check in with SLRA staff/volunteer for clean-up gear. Please dress appropriately for the weather and the job!
Stay as long or as little as you'd like.
If you are interested in volunteering, you can email Alyssa at Outreach@StLouisRiver.org (or just show up). Groups and other organizations are highly encouraged to get involved.
