FAQ's

  • Permanent? Like a Tattoo?
Permanent here doesn't mean it is on you forever, like a tattoo. It can be cut off if you wish. You can snip it at the jump ring with a sharp pair of scissors and save the chain. In fact, I offer one free re-weld per item. After that, the reattachment fee is $10.
  • Where can I find you?
Alchemy is located at: 2724 N. 21 Street Superior, WI 54880 (Inside the good garden co. building in Billings Park)
  • What's the difference between gold-filled and solid gold?
Solid Gold Jewelry does not oxidize or discolor, allowing you to wear it daily. It is the best quality and made to last forever. It is also hypoallergenic and ranges from 10K to 24K. The higher the carat (K), the softer and purer the gold. For jewelry, pure 24K gold is too malleable which is why it is mixed with other metals to strengthen the material. Most jewelry ranges between 12K-18K. Gold Filled/Gold Fill Jewelry is made of a solid layer of gold (at least 1/20th or 5% of its weight), bonded to a base of metals. Gold filled jewelry is more tarnish resistant than gold plated jewelry (vermoil and regular), and with good care it lasts for years. It is more affordable, high quality, hypoallergenic, and second best to solid gold. Gold Vermoil Jewelry has a layer of gold placed at least 25 microns over 0.925 sterling silver. Due to the thicker layer of gold playing, gold vermoil jewelry can be worn daily and lasts for a long time. It is hypoallergenic, great quality, and more affordable than solid gold/gold filled. Gold Plated jewelry has a layer of gold placed over some metals. With good and proper care, the jewelry can be worn daily and remain in its high quality condition for a long time. This is the most affordable option as well. The image below can give some more insight into what's inside each type.
  • Can I get one, just not permanent?
Yes-you betcha! I can give you the whole experience, but just not weld the chains. This would be semi-permanent. I can add a clasp for $12. (Kids get a clasp for free as I don't weld on children.)
  • Can I change my mind after you weld?
Unfortunately we do not do returns. If you'd like to remove it, you can simply cut it at the jump ring. All sales are final.
  • How do I care for my Sterling Silver and Gold Filled Jewelry?
To take care of your sterling silver and gold filled jewelry, you should regularly clean it with microfiber polishing cloth. Mix a small amount of mild dish soap or baking soda with warm water. Gently scrub the mixture onto jewelry with a soft brisled tooth brush.
  • Can you make me something custom?
Of course! Here at Alchemy we love to work with you to create your one of a kind piece of jewelry.
  • I broke my chain...now what?
No worries! We know that accidents happen. We offer ONE free re-weld. After that, it is $10/weld. Note: To date, 3 Nurses who have taken gloves off after emergency situations have ripped their bracelet off. And, my husband broke his. If you know him, you would understand! P.S. Permanent jewelry is becoming more popular with more folks welding. I am willing to fix your jewelry that you got somewhere else, but for a fee.
